This article addresses the issue of ethnic and cultural discrimination, considering the Brazilian historical context with its effects on current society and discusses the role of education as a crucial tool in the fight against discrimination and promoting social equality. The primary objective of this text is to bring to debate the need to reevaluate the historical narrative constructed regarding the condition of Brazilian men and women of Afro-descendant and indigenous origin, highlighting the importance of valuing these groups and recognizing their contributions to the historical, social and culture of the country. The study is based on normative documents such as the Federal Constitution (CF), Law 9394/1996 – Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education, Laws 10,639/2003 and 11,645/2008, which establish the mandatory teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture and indigenous people in the school curriculum and Law 13415/2017 that established the BNCC. Thus, the objective is to demonstrate the relevance of education in confronting ethnic and cultural discrimination in the country, based on a narrative literature review.
