The latest report made available by the National Public Security Secretariat indicated alarming numbers regarding the Brazilian prison population, as well as its recidivism rate. From this perspective, the present work seeks to analyze the importance of education as a mechanism for achieving positive special prevention of punishment, that is, the re-educational purpose intrinsic to prevention. Thus, using as a methodology, bibliographical research of an explanatory nature, through a bibliographical survey of primary and secondary sources, the general objective was to investigate the role of education as a means of resocialization in the prison environment in light of the state's stance in relation to special prevention. positive as the purpose of the custodial sentence. Based on this, it was concluded that education presents itself as a mechanism for achieving the resocialization of prisoners and that the State has failed to implement this mechanism within the prison system, fulfilling only the retributivist purpose and marginalizing the resocialization of prisoners.
