The elderly population, in different cultures, historically occupies a place of wisdom and carries the responsibility of spreading knowledge and customs to the generations that precede them. Thus, this article aims to understand how the cultural transmission of the quilombola elderly to the younger generations occurs, recognizing the importance of these processes in the cultural maintenance of the quilombos, as well as, based on the psychoanalytic concept of generational psychic transmission, to know its effects and understand how unconscious aspects are manifested across generations. In conclusion, the undeniable importance of the elderly population in the processes of transmission and cultural maintenance is presented, where the oral narrative is directly linked to the memory and identity of the group. The generational psychic transmission, in turn, is emphasized in the traumatic processes experienced by several generations over the centuries, with repercussions on subsequent generations.
