Resumo

É altamente significativo que em Deuteronômio, a palavra "amor", referindo-se ao amor de Deus por seu povo ou sua necessidade de amá-Lo assim como aos outros, ocorre mais vezes do que em qualquer outro livro da Bíblia, exceto Salmos, Oséias, João e 1 João. E isto pode soar estranho para muitos, acostumados a enxergar Deuteronômio apenas como um livro legal. No hebraico há um série de palavras que podem ter o significado para amar, com diversas nuances para expressá-lo. Embora Deuteronômio seja uma espécie de código civil e religioso para Israel, ele se diferencia dos códigos atuais que preveem a manutenção da ordem social. O amor de Deus por Israel e o imperativo a Israel para amar a Deus são essenciais para a compreensão do seu conteúdo. O amor em Deuteronômio consiste essencialmente de uma fidelidade cultual a Yaweh, que exclui a prática de adoração a qualquer outra divindade. A fim de estabelecer um conceito possível de אהב em Deuteronômio, a seguir tratar-se-á do significado no livro, seu uso e questões teológicas resultantes.
