Abstract
A relação entre os fundamentos filosóficos e a prática escolar no mundo antigo, antes dos gregos, parece suficientemente explorada. Isto é ainda mais verdadeiro no que respeita ao antigo Israel. Normalmente, as pessoas preocupam-se com os aspectos educativos ligados ao ambiente educativo alargado do lar e da religião (que, aliás, era muito mais importante para eles), mas muito pouca atenção tem sido dada às práticas escolares durante o tempo do Antigo Testamento. Por esta razão, o nosso objetivo é analisar de que forma os fundamentos filosóficos do Antigo Oriente Próximo, relativos a alguns importantes aspectos metafísicos, epistemológicos e axiológicos, impactaram as práticas escolares na Mesopotâmia e no antigo Israel. Procurou-se traçar paralelos e divergências entre estas duas culturas no que diz respeito às práticas de escolarização, demonstrando como as semelhanças e divergências estão ligadas a correspondências e diferenças nos seus fundamentos filosóficos.
