Resumo
Este artigo apresenta uma resenha crítica de Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why, de Bart D. Ehrman (2005). O autor, Daniel B. Wallace, reconhece o valor introdutório dos quatro primeiros capítulos como exposição popular da crítica textual neotestamentária, mas problematiza a tese central que perpassa o livro — a de que as variantes nos manuscritos alteram doutrinas cardeais do cristianismo. Após contextualizar a trajetória evangélica de Ehrman e sua ruptura com a inerrância, examinam-se as sete passagens textuais elencadas pelo autor como teologicamente decisivas (Mc 16:9–20; Jo 7:53–8:11; 1Jo 5:7–8; Hb 2:8–9; Mc 1:41; Mt 24:36; e Jo 1:18). Conclui-se que três dessas passagens já há mais de um século não são consideradas autênticas pela maioria dos estudiosos, e que as quatro restantes não modificam, de fato, doutrina central alguma quando avaliadas com sobriedade exegética e crítico-textual. Argumenta-se, por fim, que a polarização entre uma “visão dominó” da inerrância e o ceticismo agnóstico se fundamenta em uma falsa dicotomia.
