Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on social stigmas related to leprosy in contemporary Brazil and its repercussions on the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life of patients. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, carried out in the PubMed, BVS, and CAPES databases, with descriptors “leprosy”, “stigma,” and “Brazil,” in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Original, peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 that directly addressed the stigmas associated with leprosy were included. After meeting the eligibility criteria, 22 articles were selected. Results: Social stigma remains an important barrier to early diagnosis, adherence to treatment, and social reintegration of people with leprosy. Historical factors, misinformation, fear of rejection, visibility of physical disabilities, and social vulnerabilities are directly related to the perpetuation of prejudice. In addition to physical harm, individuals face emotional suffering, social isolation and a reduced quality of life. Strategies such as self-care groups, educational actions, training of health professionals and community engagement have proven effective in reducing stigma. Conclusion: Addressing leprosy in Brazil requires intersectoral actions that integrate public policies, health education and the promotion of human rights. Combating stigma is essential to improving early diagnosis, access to treatment and the quality of life of patients.
