Abstract

ABSTRACT

Goals: To review in the literature the effects of screen exposure on youth and infants development. Methodology: Narrative review with bibliography search between march and April 2003 in the databases Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Medical literature Analyses and retrieval System Online (PubMed/Medline), The Scientific Eletronic Library Online (Scielo) based on the descriptors indexed to Descritores em Ciência da Saúde (DECS) and in the Medial Subject Heading (MESH) and boolean “AND”. Results: 21 articles published between 2004 and 2022. Discussion: There are numerous negative correlations between screen time and development with an impact on motor skills, language, cognition, behavior an emotional regulation that reverberate throughout all life. But the evidences are still inconclusives, as positive associations are also observed and studies differ in methodology and sample. Conclusion: Given the relevance of the topic, there is a need for more studies thad address the subject, in order to embase future guidelines and clarify the risks of exposure to media.

Keywords: screen, screen time, child growth and development.
