Introduction: The literature points to great participation of pelvic floor muscles in female urinary function, since in cases of changes in their performance, some women may exhibit pelvic floor dysfunction (PAD) that may have a negative impact on their urinary function.
Objective: To verify the function of the pelvic floor muscles with female urinary function.
Methods: 30 women, over 18 years old, with an active sex life were evaluated. The variables analyzed were: strength of the MAP using the PERFECT method, as well as the voiding function through the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire – Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and Protection, Quantity, Frequency, Adjustment, Body Image (PRAFAB) questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using the “Microsoft Excel” program and the BioEstat version 5.0 program.
Results: Of the 30 women evaluated, 17 (56.66%) were classified with urinary incontinence (UI) according to the ICQSF and, of these, 8 (47.05%) were classified as moderate UI based on the PRAFAB questionnaire. Regarding muscle function, there was a trend of lower values among women with UI, when compared to women without UI.
Conclusion: The study participants have urinary dysfunction, mostly in a moderate degree. The muscular function of the pelvic floor was shown to be decreased.
