DENTAL MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPENIC PURPURA: CASE REPORT

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disease characterized by thrombocytopenia due to excessive consumption of platelets, which results in hemorrhagic events of varying duration and severity. The oral cavity is a common site for hemorrhagic events in these patients, due to periodontal diseases, or related to invasive dental procedures. For this reason, treating patients with blood dyscrasias, such as ITP, is considered a challenge for general dentists. We aimed to report a clinical case of a patient with ITP, submitted to urgent dental care and periodontal treatment, focusing on the clinical management strategies in order to provide a safer dental care and reducing the risk for oral hemorrhagic events.
