New hypotheses to the symbols of Revelation 17
RESUMO
Este artigo analisa os símbolos proféticos de Ap 17 com o objetivo de explorar as relações entre a besta escarlate, a primeira besta de Ap 13 e o dragão de Ap 12. O estudo é feito à luz do contexto das sete pragas e do paralelo construído entre o clímax escatológico provido por Ap 13 e 16-17, paralelo este usado como base para se sugerir uma relação entre a besta semelhante a leopardo e a meretriz, e entre a besta de dois chifres e o oitavo rei. Em seu contexto imediato, o texto de Ap 17 é considerado como uma espécie de juízo de investigação seguido da execução de sentença sobre a meretriz (Ap 18). O oitavo rei é distinguido do poder religioso e relacionado com os poderes políticos e militares.

ABSTRACT
This paper analyzes the prophetic symbols of Revelation 17 with the aim of exploring the relationship between the scarlet beast, the first beast of Revelation 13 and the dragon of Revelation 12. The study is done against the background of the seven plagues and the parallel built between the eschatological climax provided by Rev. 13 and 16-17, this parallel is used as a basis for suggesting a relationship between the leopard-like beast and the harlot, and between the twohorned beast and an eighth. In its immediate context, the text of Revelation 17 is seen as a kind of investigative judgment followed the execution of judgment on the harlot (Rev. 18). The eighth king is distinguished from religious and related political and military powers power.
