At an epidemiological level, it is of utmost importance to discover patterns of events in relation to the health and subsequent treatment of these patients. Objective: To assess the level of functionality of critically ill pediatric patients upon admission and discharge from the pediatric intensive care unit. Methods: This is a retrospective, descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, analytical and cohort study, with critically ill patients in the period from 2021 to 2022. Functional status upon admission and discharge was assessed using the Functional Status Scale in Intensive Care Unit, gestational age in the case of premature infants, weight, diseases acquired during pregnancy, and reason for hospitalization. Results: 61 female and 80 male children were selected, under 1 year and over 10 years old. Individuals aged between 01 and 02 years, 47.54% female and 41.25% male, the mean age was 3.61, with height 86.83 cm. Pneumonia (p=0.0035) was the most prevalent pathology causing greater functional impairment. Conclusion: The data obtained in our study can be compared to those reported for other PICUs in Brazil and worldwide, considering population differences. The results found are similar to those of other health centers.
2025-04-28T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Brasileira de Saúde Funcionalhttps://adventista.emnuvens.com.br/RBSF/article/view/2101EXPERIÊNCIAS DA ATUAÇÃO DO SERVIÇO SOCIAL EM COMUNIDADES COMPASSIVAS DE FAVELAS2024-12-13T15:56:51-03:00JOSETE Lima Cavalcantemovimentommah@gmail.comMatheus Rodrigues Martinsmatheusrodrigues355@gmail.comMarcela Teixeira de Souzamarceelateeixeira@gmail.comAna Carolina Cavaletticarolinacavaletti@bol.com.brGlaziela Arruda Coelhoglaziarruda30@gmail.comAlexandre Ernesto Silvaalexandresilva@ufsj.edu.br
ABSTRACT: Objective: To describe the role of Social Services in assisting elderly patients receiving palliative care in the Compassionate Community of a favela. Method: This is a report of professional experience, about the role of social services in assisting elderly patients undergoing palliative care in a compassionate favela community. Results: The challenges observed in favela territories require more time from the social worker for social articulation inside and outside this scenario. Direct and constant contact with patients in the compassionate community and local agents (volunteer project residents) minimizes this barrier. Coordination with the health and social assistance devices present in these locations is essential. Discussion: Elderly patients eligible for the Compassionate Community project are, in the vast majority, suffering from advanced cancer that was diagnosed late. Social demands vary due to lack of knowledge about possible services and difficulty in accessing social rights. In turn, the need for assistance for individuals and their families who experience minimum survival conditions is evident. Final considerations: Therefore, it is important to offer knowledge that can be multiplied in the territories where the Compassionate Community operates in order to minimize the harm caused by the lack of assistance. By listening carefully and free from prejudice, it is possible to develop professional skills to work in different contexts and to promote quality assistance.
2025-04-28T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Brasileira de Saúde Funcionalhttps://adventista.emnuvens.com.br/RBSF/article/view/2081Impact of painful characteristics, Anxiety, and Depression symptoms on Quality of Life in Sickle Cell Disease individuals2024-05-23T18:50:28-03:00Lilian Becerra de Oliveiralilian.becerra@adventista.edu.brTiago da Silva Lopestslopes.physio@gmail.comJuliane Nascimento de Sousajunascimentodesousa@gmail.comEdvan Santos da Silvasilvaesfisio@gmail.comSânzia Bezerra Ribeirosanzia.ribeiro@adventista.edu.brAbrahão Fontes Baptistaabrahao.baptista@gmail.comKatia Nunes Sákatia.sa@gmail.com
ABSTRACT

Introduction: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common hemoglobinopathy in the world, with 275,000 newborns annually. Hemoglobin polymerization leads to erythrocyte rigidity and Vaso-occlusion, which leads to pain and other changes in the body, seriously affecting the quality of life (QoL) of carriers. Purpose: To analyze the impact of tender points in the body, average pain, Catastrophizing, Central Sensitization (CS), Anxiety, and Depression on the QoL of adults with SCD. Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. It collected sociodemographic data and applied the Brazilian-Portuguese Central Sensitization Inventory, the Brief Pain Inventory, the Hospital Anxiety/Depression Scale, the Brazilian-Portuguese Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and the Short Form Health Survey 36. Statistical analysis was done to define associations (Chi-square or Fisher's Exact) and correlation (Pearson correlation test). The alpha level was 5%, and the Beta of 80%. Results: 100 individuals participate, with genotypes HbSS/HbSC. 69% were women. Age 34.14+10.12 years. Pain intensity 4.20+2.67; 71% had chronic pain; 60% had widespread pain; 59% had CS; 33% had Anxiety; and 18% had Depression. The lowest mean score for QoL was for the Physical Aspect domain (35.55+40.16). Anxiety, Average Pain, CS, and Catastrophizing correlated with all the domains of QoL. Anxiety and CS showed a significant negative influence over the Mental Health domain (F(2.95)=43.014 p< .001; adjusted R2=.464), explaining 46.6% of the outcome. Catastrophizing and CS had a significant negative influence on the General Health Status (F(2.95)=21.592 p<.001; adjusted R2=.298), explaining 29.8% of the outcome; and Anxiety, Pain in lower limbs, and Depression had a significant negative influence on Pain domain (F(2.95)=15.207 p<.001; adjusted R2=.270), explaining 27% of the outcome. Conclusion: Anxiety, Depression, Catastrophizing, and CS are significant factors that impact QoL. In a population of SCD individuals, the primary objective is to control pain, which leads to chronic pain directly affecting these predictors and, inevitably, QoL.

Keywords: Sickle Cell Disease, Quality of life, Central sensitization, Catastrophizing, Depression, Anxiety.

2025-04-28T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Brasileira de Saúde Funcionalhttps://adventista.emnuvens.com.br/RBSF/article/view/2161REPERCUSSÕES DA VIVÊNCIA ACADÊMICA NA SAÚDE MENTAL DOS ESTUDANTES DE ENFERMAGEM EM UMA UNIVERSIDADE PÚBLICA 2024-11-07T21:24:50-03:00Layla Saluanne Barbosa dos Santoslayl.saluane15@gmail.comLaís Lopes Gonçalveslaisllopez06@gmail.comDailey Oliveira Carvalho docarvalho@uefs.brAline Geane Oliveira Martinsninegeane@gmail.comSinara de Lima Souzasinarals@uefs.brCarmen Liêta Ressureição dos Santosclrsantos@uefs.br
Objective: this study aims to examine the impact of the academic journey on the mental well-being of nursing students enrolled in a public university. Methodology: the research adopts a descriptive approach with a qualitative framework, involving nursing students who took part in semi-structured interviews utilizing Bardin's Content Analysis Technique. Results and discussion: a total of eight nursing students, comprising six females and two males in their 3rd to 8th semesters, with ages ranging from 20 to 37, participated. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most studied cannabinoids with great therapeutic potential, acting as an anxiolytic, antidepressant, antipsychotic, anticonvulsant and anti-inflammatory. One of the main advantages of this compound is that it does not have numbing effects. Even with its proven therapeutic efficacy for various pathologies, its clinical use is still an obstacle. The present study aims to analyze the perception of health students regarding the use of cannabidiol for psychiatric treatments. This is a field study with an exploratory focus with quantitative data, the research was carried out using a questionnaire with students from undergraduate courses in the health area at the Centro Universitário do Recôncavo da Bahia. The research was evaluated by a Research Ethics Committee with opinion No. 6,339,318, shortly afterwards the research began, the data was obtained, organized and tabulated. The students' perception of medicinal and recreational use, and how they deal with the use of plant derivatives for psychiatric treatments, was notable. However, it is still necessary to bring the use of medicinal plants to the academic sphere, highlighting their beneficial and harmful effects, considering that tests have shown significant results in relation to C. sativa in psychiatry.
2025-04-28T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Revista Brasileira de Saúde Funcionalhttps://adventista.emnuvens.com.br/RBSF/article/view/2087MODIFIED OSTEOTOMY FOR REMOVAL OF ECTOPIC DENTAL UNIT RETAINED IN MANDIBLE: CASE REPORT2024-06-11T16:29:51-03:00ALBERT LUBKI WAGMACKERalbertlubki@gmail.comVictoria Assunção Costavictoria.assuncao2001@gmail.comManuela Luanny Ventura Rochamanurochs@gmail.comAllan Israel Fortaleza Santosallan.aifs@hotmail.comGilmar Rocha da Silvagr.bucomaxilo@gmail.comMeily de Mello Sousameily.sousa2@gmail.com
Introduction: Ectopic teeth are mostly discovered in routine radiographic examinations, their etiology is uncertain and little described in the literature. The ectopic lower molar is no exception to the rule of the others, its location can vary and can be found in: mandibular condyle, coronoid process and mandibular body. In these types of cases, you can choose to monitor or intervene. If surgical intervention is the treatment option and given the complexity of this type of tooth positioning, well-designed surgical planning is crucial, thus avoiding trans- and post-surgical complications. Objective: to report the clinical case of a modified osteotomy to remove an ectopic tooth unit retained in the mandible. Case presentation: male patient, 21 years old, sought the Oral and Maxillofacial Traumatology Clinic service at Hospital Otorrinos - Feira de Santana – Bahia to remove ectopic retained units 47 and 48. The surgical procedure was performed via intra-oral access in a hospital environment under general anesthesia. Use of piezoelectric for osteotomy and odontosection, and synthesis with autogenous and xenogeneic grafts together with titanium plates and screws. Results: The patient evolved without complications other than expected, such as controlled edema, trismus and paresthesia, which lasted only one week. Conclusion: individualized planning and the use of modern techniques enabled a better prognosis for the case.
